Big Bird is a Dodo, and he is no longer ashamed to admit it.
“We’ve known for a long time,” said Ernie from Bert and Ernie. “I’ve seen under the feathers, and I know what’s there.”
“How could you not know,” said Oscar the Grouch. “Have you seen the way he prances around? He has to be a Dodo.”
After over twenty years of being questioned about his avian affiliation, Big Bird said he couldn’t take it anymore and doesn’t care who knows that he is a Dodo. He added that having to conceal his avian heritage made him feel isolated and depressed.

“You have no idea what it’s like to go to a party full of swans and hawks trying to pretend like you’re just like them, when deep down you know you’re living a lie.”
The depression manifested itself into an act of vandalism earlier this year, when Big Bird was arrested defacing a Chick fil A billboard of a cow asking people to eat more chikin (sic).
BAAD (Birds Against Avian Defamation) has come out in support of Big Bird and applauds his decision and the strength he has demonstrated dealing with issues in the last few decades.
“We feel that all birds should be proud of the kind of bird they are,” said BAAD spokesbird Paulie Wanna Cracker. “Not all of us can be bald eagles and flamingos. Some of us are penguins and turkeys, and we should be proud of that.”
Big Bird is the third famous bird this year to identify their avian affiliation this year along with Terence from Angry Birds and Fruit Loops Toucan Sam (who is not a Toucan).
